The Role of Lady Health Workers
Originally focused on Maternal and Child Health (MCH), the responsibilities of LHWs have evolved to cover a broader spectrum. They now actively participate in health campaigns, provide newborn care, manage community TB, and educate communities on HIV/AIDS health. On average, each LHW visits 27 households per week, offering advice and consultations to approximately 22 individuals.
There are around 12,000 LHWs who will receive Rs14,084 (BPS-5) each, along with 560 Lady Health Supervisors earning Rs17,000 (BPS-7) each. STS is an independent and professional testing organization that ensures the fairness and transparency of various tests, including entrance tests, recruitment tests, examinations, and assessments.
Deployment of Lady Health Workers
LHWs are deployed across all four provinces of Pakistan. While they are attached to local health facilities, their primary work takes place within the community, often from their homes. The training for LHWs involves three months of classroom training followed by one year of on-the-job training. This on-the-job training includes one week of training per month for 12 months, coupled with 15 days of refresher training annually. It is imperative for LHWs to collect their STS roll number slips promptly, ensuring all information is accurate. Any discrepancies should be reported immediately to the relevant authorities.
